💬 Onboarding-Guide: Frage & Antwort
Was hat absolute Priorität?
Was kosten Getränke?
Was muss ich beim Strom beachten?
Was sollte ich mitbringen?
Arbeitskleidung, die dreckig werden darf, feste Schuhe (Gummistiefel!), Regenjacke, Sonnenschutz, Hausschuhe, Stirnlampe, Handtücher – und deine Versicherungsnachweise. Bettwäsche bekommst du von uns. Instrument ausdrücklich erwünscht. 🎶
Jo (Technischer Leiter): Werkzeug, Maschinen, Solar, Brunnen, Reparaturen. Andrea (Finanzen & Frauenbeauftragte): Geld, Abrechnung – und vertrauliche Ansprechpartnerin für alle Frauen vor Ort. Jan (WWOOFer-Koordinator): Tagesaufgaben, Wochenplanung montags, Einweisungen.

🤝 The deal
What is the deal – what do I get, what do I give?
You get accommodation in your own WWOOFer caravan surrounded by greenery, good fresh food (much of it from our own garden) and real learning experiences. In return you help out with commitment: approx. 4 hours a day, 6 days a week, one day off by arrangement. No employment, no hotel – a fair exchange at eye level.
When do I work – are there fixed hours?
You can spread your hours flexibly across the day – some prefer watering at 6 am, others potter about in the evening. Only these are fixed: watering morning and evening, the daily bathroom wipe-down, Thursday cooking day and Saturday morning house cleaning. Just one thing matters: the deal stays fair.
What do you expect from me?
Help within your possibilities – nobody demands what you cannot do. Reliability with the fixed tasks, open communication and care with your accommodation, tools and the place. Our house principle: "If I do something, I do it properly – or I don't do it at all."
⭐ The most important task
What has absolute priority?
Watering the garden – morning and evening. This task comes before any other activity. Water early in the morning and in the evening when the sun is low, close to the roots and sparingly. What and how much: Jan shows you during the introduction.
Why is watering so important?
The garden is the heart of the association's purpose: feeding the community from its own land. Plants forgive an untidy shed – they do not forgive a missed watering day in midsummer. What you do here literally ends up on everyone's plate, including yours.
🍳 Food & kitchen
How do meals work?
You sort out breakfast and lunch yourself in the kitchen of the main house "Gunther". Dinner is always shared at the big table – around 9 pm in summer, around 8 pm in winter. It is the moment of the day when everyone comes together – be there.
May I use the kitchen?
Any time! In return the kitchen is the WWOOFers' responsibility: we help and love cooking together – but you make sure it stays clean, working and inviting. After every use: wash up, wipe surfaces, stove and gas off. Gas appliances only after an introduction.
What is the WWOOFer cooking day?
Every Thursday the WWOOFers cook for the community – Thursday is also community day (3–11 pm), so guests and members join in. Plan early (recipe, ingredients, shopping agreed with Jan), seasonal produce from the garden comes first. No gourmet menu needed: honest, good food cooked with love.
What do drinks cost?
Food and non-alcoholic drinks are on the house. You pay for alcoholic drinks yourself: add yourself to the tally sheet in the kitchen and settle up with Andrea.
🧹 Cleaning & routines
Which cleaning routines are there?
Two fixed ones: the WWOOFer bathroom is damp-wiped every day (10 minutes – floor, sink, shower, remove hair, leave dry). And on Saturday mornings the main house is cleaned – once a week, together, done in 1–2 hours.
What do I do when I leave?
Strip the beds and hand in the linen, sweep out the caravan, separate the rubbish, return anything borrowed, settle open amounts with Andrea – and a farewell round with Benedikt: feedback in both directions. And do visit your welcome tree once more. 🌳
💧 Water & electricity
Why is saving water such a big thing?
Our water comes from our own well – it is not unlimited. In dry periods saving water is mandatory, not a request: short showers, taps fully closed, report dripping taps at once, water plants close to the roots. Drinking water is available at the designated taps.
What about electricity?
Part of our power comes from a solar system with battery storage. Rule of thumb: big consumers run while the sun shines. Fan heaters, kettles, hair dryers etc. only by arrangement, never plug in devices on your own initiative. Lights off when leaving, unplug chargers.
🏡 Living & the place
Where do I live?
In the WWOOFer caravan surrounded by greenery – you are responsible for keeping it tidy. Your bathroom is the shower wagon "Isolde". Meals and community life happen in the main house "Gunther" (in bad weather: shoes off, bring slippers).
What should I bring?
Work clothes that can get dirty, sturdy shoes (wellies!), rain jacket, sun protection, slippers, head torch, towels – and proof of your insurances. We provide bed linen. Instruments explicitly welcome. 🎶
What is the welcome tree about?
On their first visit, every person plants a tree or a suitable shrub – your welcome tree. Place, species and timing are agreed with Benedikt. Your tree keeps growing here long after you have moved on.
Why does everyone walk barefoot here?
"Vaikuntha must be walkable barefoot" – the whole site should be safely usable without shoes all year round. So: never leave sharp objects lying around, sweep and check after building work. Marked work areas are the exception – sturdy shoes there. And: try it!
👥 People & rules
Who is who – and whom do I ask what?
Benedikt (board): first point of contact, association, plans, guests. Jo (technical lead): tools, machines, solar, well, repairs. Andrea (finances & women's representative): money, settling up – and confidential contact for all women on site. Jan (WWOOFer coordinator): daily tasks, weekly planning on Mondays, introductions.
What are the most important rules of living together?
Mutual respect towards people, animals and the place. Boundaries and a "no" are respected, conflicts are raised early and calmly, damage is reported immediately. Quiet hours 10 pm – 8 am. And the golden rule: when in doubt, always ask – there are no stupid questions.
May I make fire or smoke?
Due to drought there is currently an absolute fire ban on the entire site – no campfire, no open barbecue, no candles outside. Smoking only outdoors with butts fully extinguished; smoking is banned in all buildings and sleeping areas.
Can I bring visitors?
Vaikuntha is not a public facility – please arrange visits with Benedikt beforehand. Unannounced overnight stays, unauthorised camping and private parties are not possible. On Thursdays and the first weekend of the month the community is open – guests are welcome then.
Am I insured?
As a WWOOFer you are yourself responsible for health, accident and liability insurance (EU citizens: the EHIC card usually covers health insurance). Please show us your documents in the first week.
