Fundraiser · Harvest Festival 2026
For Shiva
Shiva needs eye surgery costing around €1,200. Everything the harvest dance night on 17 October brings in goes to her — and every extra donation helps.
Shiva’s story
Our cat Shiva is seven years old and has lived at Vaikuntha since 2019. Anyone who has been here knows her: suddenly she is standing in front of you with those big eyes, asking for treats or a cuddle — and hardly anyone walks on without a smile.
Over the past weeks she became quieter, slept far more than usual, was breathing audibly, and her right eye looked different. Kathrin, who looks after the cats here, took her to the eye specialist at the veterinary clinic in Elversberg. The diagnosis: the dark patches in her right eye are melanomas — cancer. There is already a single spot in her left eye, too.
There were three options: do nothing. Remove both eyes — which would mean Shiva, an outdoor cat since she was small, staying indoors for good. Or examine her lungs and abdomen and, if no metastases show, remove the right eye; cats cope very well with one eye. Because Shiva is only seven and her blood values are very good, the vet advised the third option. That is what the board decided.
On 28 October Shiva will have X-rays and an ultrasound. If everything is clear, surgery follows straight away — with her own vet in Dillingen, who knows her. She will spend the first while afterwards at Kathrin’s home: with a cone, tablets and someone who knows her quirks. Keep your fingers crossed for her.
What your donation is for
- The preliminary examination at the clinic alone cost around €370. X-rays, ultrasound, surgery and aftercare come on top.
- If metastases are found after all, we will give Shiva palliative care — which also means regular check-ups and medication.
- If more comes in than Shiva needs, the rest stays in a separate fund: for the next animal at Vaikuntha that falls ill and needs help.
- From 15 October there is a donation box in the club room — you will recognise it by Shiva’s photo.
